The Rotary Club of Porbandar is one of the pioneers in Rotary District 3060 of the rotary movement, devoted to the ideal of Fellowship through service. It was founded on July 27, 1959. The Club meets every 2nd and 4th Saturday at 8 P. M. at Natvarsinhji Club, the very place where the founders had their first get-together. The first president of the club was Rtn. R S Rungta Reading the list of subsequent presidents is like scanning the ‘Who’s who’ of Porbandar of the time, bearing names of life of this great Metropolis.
The membership of the Club has grown from year 1959 to around 60 today. The unique single classification concept of Rotary allows the Rotary Club of Porbandar a membership compromising a high performance cross-section of Porbandar’s successful business and professional men and women, all accomplishers in their own field ranging from doctors to architects, legal luminaries to bankers, entrepreneurs to educationalists and merchandisers to communicators. The Club offers a stimulating fellowship based on a fascinating diversity of interests in business, arts, sciences and the professional expertise of its members.
This Club has inspired the incorporation of 3 Interact clubs Like Interact club of Cham School, Interact Club of GMC School and Interact Club of Navyug School with about 150 school children as members, and 1 Rotaract club. There is a very active RCC @ GKP School of our Club. There is also a very active Inner Wheel Club.
From the very beginning the pulse of Rotary has been and always will be Community Service. Today the Rotary Club of Porbandar has diversified its activities through the work of various committees constituted to look after the various avenues of service. The Club has been able to attempt a number of service programmes only because of generous donations of time and money by the members and other philanthropic citizens. The Club is supported in its mega project by grants from The Rotary Foundation and Rotary International District 3060.
The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others
